  • Old Business

  • Debbie reported that the Police Dept. has been paid.
  • Silver Annual Picnic - Discussion about our Silver Annual picnic resulted in our learning that this function began in the year of 1986. There are photographs available for the past four years stored at the senior center. Research still has to be done in regards to where it was held. All agreed that the East Hartford Gazette and Raymond Library is a good place to start.
  • New Chairs – Pat Lancaster asked Marie to request in her absence that 25 new chairs be purchased for the south end senior center. A motion to set aside the sum of $500 for the chairs was made by Ed LaLiberte and seconded by Ed Carlson. On further discussion regarding the chairs it was noted that the cost may not be enough.
  • New Business
  • Mayor’s Breakfast – The date of May 3, 2011 was set to be the Mayor's breakfast, which Marie will seek confirmation of availability at the south end senior center.
  • Letter from Mayor – A brief discussion was held about a letter Debbie received from the mayor regarding the formation of a study group to review one senior center as opposed to having two. Debbie also asked if anyone was interested in joining. Marie and it was noted the Ed Carlson had already expressed interest earlier.
  • RAB Request – Marie Fredrickson informed the Commission that the Resident Advisory Board (RAB) representative from Elms Village made a request of $100 for assistance to help defray the cost of its Christmas party. Marie explained that the individual who usually led this event passed away suddenly. Marie also learned that this individual had asked a local business for assistance upon which this business asked for a letter from East Hartford Housing to send them a letter stating they were not able to assist. The RAB representative felt that to be demeaning and therefore approached the commission. During the commissioner's discussion Debbie called the Town Hall for clarification if this could be done and how it should be done. The commissioner's decided that the sum of $50 be available for all senior housing (public and private a total of 12). Marie did not participate in the discussion. Ed CARLSON made a motion to set aside $600 and was seconded by Ed LaLiberte. Michelle will be contacting Alexis Donald the social coordinator for information regarding which of her senior housing UNITS were going to have a Christmas party. Marie will contact Debbie the total of how many would be having a Christmas Party as soon as possible.
Adjournment – Fran Rago made motion to adjourn the meeting. Ed Carlson seconded.  Meeting adjourned at 3:05 pm.
